The Relevance of Addressing Them and the Stereotypes of Latinas

Italian women are often depicted in media as caramel skinned, tight- creamy, sexy, curvy, and sassy. Personalities such as Gloria in Modern Family, Carmen Miranda, and Ximena are just a few cases When we hear the term “latina notion,” they are the women we all associate with. They have a thick voice, a gorgeous voice, and a savory personality. Latinas are reduced to materials and have limited potential because of this seductive, unique stereotype.

16 young Latinas who participated in focus groups and semistructured interviews between November 2014 and June 2015 at two federally qualified health centers in Baltimore, Maryland, are the subject of this article’s use of a social determinant of health ( Sdh) framework. A qualified, fluent moderator conducted focus groups and interviews in either English or Spanish based on members’ language preferences.

Three main themes emerged: Individuals shared a desire and capacity to maximize their potentials through contraceptive firm, believed they were responsible for their communities’ economic well-being, frequently anticipating the birth of their future children, and emphasized the importance of postponing childbirth in order to achieve both academic and professional objectives. These conclusions demonstrate how crucial it is to correct female preconceptions to enable Latinas to realize their full potential. Translating these results into efficient, individual- centered counseling by family planning providers can help the aspirations of younger Latinas and promote equity in health care access.
